What it does in your beer
In New England and hazy IPAs, wheat flakes are a key part of the grist for the haze the style is known for. They're often combined with oat or barley flakes, and together the flakes add body and foam stability — useful in stouts and wheat beers too.
No enzymes on board: your base malt does the converting.

How much for a 20 L batch
Up to 10 % of the malt weight — on 5 kg of malt that's up to 500 g, half a bag.
Adding oat flakes as well? Keep all the flakes together at 20 % of the malt weight or less: up to 1 kg on 5 kg of malt.
How to use
- Mash the flakes with your crushed malt — the malt provides the enzymes.
- For a hazy IPA, combine them with oat flakes and stay inside both limits: 10 % wheat, 20 % unmalted in total.
- Add rice hulls. Unmalted ingredients can drag down your lauter.
