Sládek is Czech for "brewer", and the hop lives up to the name: a fine, rounded hop aroma for lagers, with more alpha than Saaz to pull its weight in the boil.
Alpha 4.5–7.5 % · Mid & late boil, dry hop · Fine hoppy aroma · T90 pellets · Crop 2025 · 100 g or 1 kg
What it does in your beer
Sládek is a Czech aroma variety bred from Northern Brewer and Saaz and registered in 1994. It gives a fine, pleasant hop aroma; variety data adds citrus, grapefruit and red berries such as blackcurrant and strawberry, with a faint note of dill.
With 4.5–7.5 % alpha it carries more bitterness per gram than Saaz, which makes it a natural mid-boil addition in Czech-style lagers. It works late in the boil and in the dry hop too.

How to use
- Second addition, mid-boil: its classic role in a Czech-style lager.
- Third addition, late in the boil: for more hop aroma.
- Dry hop: a listed use when you want the aroma up front.
- Working from a 1 kg bag? Weigh out what you need quickly, press the air out and get the rest straight back into the cold.
Pairs well with
Brewing a Czech-style lager? Czech Pilsner Malt and SafLager S-189, Vital for the bittering charge, Sládek mid-boil and Saaz (Žatecký poloraný červeňák) to finish.
Storage & shelf life
- Sealed, cold, dry and dark — always.
- Specs for T90 pellets ask for −3 to 5 °C, somewhere dry and free of odours.
- Variety data rates Sládek's storage stability as fair, so work through an opened pack steadily rather than letting it sit.
