What it does in your beer
Simcoe is a true dual-purpose American hop. With 12–14 % alpha and a low co-humulone share it bitters efficiently, and its oil brings pine and grapefruit with citrus, stone fruit, tropical fruit and a woody, earthy base.
Hop-heavy IPAs are the obvious home. Grower data also points it at darker, malt-driven beers such as stouts and porters.

How to use
- First addition: efficient bittering — 10 g for 60 minutes gives about 15 IBU in 20 L.
- Second, mid-boil addition: resinous, citrusy flavour.
- Dry hop: pine and grapefruit move to the front.
- Whirlpool: at 12–14 % alpha, hot additions above about 60 °C still add bitterness — count them.
Swap it for
Out of Simcoe? Grower data lists Centennial, Citra®, Mosaic and Warrior as similar varieties — Centennial, Citra and Mosaic are in our range.
Pairs well with
Brewing an IPA? Try it on BESTMALZ BEST Pale Ale with SafAle US-05.
Going dark? Crisp Maris Otter and Crisp Roasted Barley make the base for a hoppy stout or porter.
Storage & shelf life
- Sealed, cold, dry and dark is the rule.
- T90 pellet data calls for −3 to 5 °C in a dry, odour-free place; oxygen, heat and light degrade hops.
- The breeder rates its storage stability as good, but an opened pack still wants resealing and the cold.
