Just the mash tun: body, lid and grain door. Bring your own false bottom and fittings.

The BrewTaurus K80 Mash Tun — vessel only — is a 93.3 L mash tun in 304 stainless with a 200 × 280 mm grain door and 1.5" Tri-Clamp ports throughout. The false bottom and grain chute are sold separately. Pair it with the K80 HLT for HERMS, or with the K80 Boil Kettle for a two-vessel brew day. Spent grain leaves through the door, not over your head.

Vessel only — no false bottom, no fittings. You get the mash tun body, its stainless lid and the 200 × 280 mm grain door. The false bottom, grain chute and Tri-Clamp fittings (valves, clamps, gaskets, blind cap) are not included. Add the K80 False Bottom with its gasket to mash in it. Or take the K80 Mash Tun — Complete Set, which adds the false bottom, grain chute and fittings.

Grain door 200 × 280 mm
Ports all 1.5" Tri-Clamp
Empty weight ≈13.5 kg (vessel only)

Grain, strike-water and false-bottom figures on this page assume the K80 False Bottom (sold separately).

How much grain fits

Mash thickness Max grain Strike water
2.4 L/kg (thick) ~28 kg ~67 L
2.6 L/kg ~26 kg ~68 L
3.0 L/kg (thin) ~23 kg ~70 L

A 12 °P (OG 1.048) beer at 70 L into the fermenter needs ~15.7 kg. At maximum grain you reach ~18 °P (OG ~1.074) at 70 L. Strike water includes the liquor below the false bottom.

Built for real mash work

  • Grain door 200 × 280 mm — gasketed, locked by a crossbar with a hand knob, hinged and fully removable. Drain, open, rake the grain out — easiest with the grain chute (sold separately). No lifting a wet grain bed.
  • Made for the laser-cut 1.5 mm stainless K80 False Bottom (sold separately); runoff leaves through a centred 1.5" outlet in the dished bottom.
  • Temperature port at 45°, 100 mm above the bottom seam, for a thermowell or probe.
  • Recirculation return 50.8 mm below the rim · central 1.5" lid port for a CIP spray head.
  • No heating port, by design. Hold mash temperature with HERMS (K80 HLT), RIMS or pre-heated strike water.

FAQ

What does the complete set add?
The K80 Mash Tun — Complete Set adds the grain chute · laser-cut SS304 false bottom (1.5 mm) with perforated drain-protection stand · 1× 1.5" TC elbow · 2× 1.5" TC butterfly valves · 4× 1.5" band clamps + 4× gaskets · 1× 1.5" blind cap. Take the vessel only if you already have a false bottom and Tri-Clamp fittings, or want to pick your own.

How much grain does the K80 mash tun hold?
About 26 kg at a standard 2.6 L/kg mash, up to ~28 kg at a thick 2.4 L/kg (fly sparge). That brews a 70 L batch up to ~18 °P (OG ~1.074).

How much volume is under the false bottom?
5.4 L sits below the false bottom. The strike water figures on this page already include it.

Can I heat the mash tun directly?
No. It has no heating port. Keep the mash on temperature with a HERMS coil in the K80 HLT, a RIMS tube, or pre-heated strike water.

How does the spent grain come out?
Drain the tun, loosen the hand knob, swing the crossbar aside, open the door and rake the grain out into a bucket — the grain chute (sold separately) makes it cleaner. The door lifts off completely for cleaning.

Fly sparge or batch sparge?
Both work. The maximum grain figure assumes fly sparging; for batch sparging keep the grain bill lower so the sparge water fits under the rim.

Can I clean it in place?
Yes. Fit a 1.5" CIP spray head to the 1.5" lid port and recirculate cleaner with a pump strong enough to drive it, such as the MP-40RM.

Product photos may show a prototype or a different size; production units follow the manufacturing drawing.

Gravity figures assume 70 % brewhouse efficiency (65 % at maximum grain); your mill, malt and process will move them.
