Designed operating range
- Nominal kettle capacity: 86.5 L
- Recommended batch size (into fermenter): 55–70 L
- Maximum practical knockout volume: 75–78 L
- Minimum efficient batch size: ~40–45 L
Below 45 L the system works, but heating dynamics and pump routing are no longer optimal. The geometry is designed for stable operation in the 60–70 L range.
Grain load & mash performance
- Grain capacity: 15–25 kg
- Recommended mash thickness: 2.6–3.2 L/kg
- Maximum practical grain load: ~28 kg with controlled recirculation
Example: 22 kg grain at 2.8 L/kg → approx. 61.6 L mash volume.
Dual MP40 pumps provide stable recirculation within this range.
System is not designed for ultra-thick mash regimes below 2.3 L/kg.
Heating performance
- 1 × 2.2 kW tri-clamp heating element
- 1 × 3.5 kW tri-clamp heating element
- Total installed power: 5.7 kW
- 2 × Inkbird C236T (16A EU plug)
Requires two independent 16A electrical circuits.
Estimated heat-up time (60 L water, 15°C → 100°C):
≈ 30–40 minutes depending on ambient temperature.
Boil stability at 65 L:
Strong rolling boil achievable. Evaporation rate approx. 6–8% per hour depending on environment.
Hydraulics & flow
- 2 × MP40 65W pumps (continuous duty capable)
- Sanitary 1.5" tri-clamp architecture
- 11 × tri-clamp quick-connect fittings
- Integrated stainless manifold
Dual-pump configuration enables:
- Mash recirculation
- Sparge and transfer routing
- Whirlpool and knockout preparation
- CIP recirculation without disassembly
MP40 pumps provide sufficient head for counterflow chilling and transfer into standard-height fermenters.
Cooling performance
- Counterflow wort chiller (single-pass)
- Optimized for 55–70 L knockouts
At groundwater temperature 10–15°C:
Single-pass cooling to 18–22°C achievable with controlled flow rate.
Knockout time (65 L): approx. 8–15 minutes depending on water pressure and delta-T.
Power & installation requirements
- 2 × independent 16A circuits
- Stable water supply for counterflow chiller
- Flat, load-bearing surface (filled system ≈ 120–150 kg)

Example batch + brewhouse efficiency
Target beer: 12°P Pale Ale / APA (≈1.048 OG)
Target volume into fermenter: 65 L
Base malts typically have ~80% extract potential (dry basis). Brewhouse efficiency depends on crush, recirculation and sparge control.
Calculation
- Wort mass: 65 L × 1.048 ≈ 68.1 kg
- Extract in wort: 12% of 68.1 kg ≈ 8.17 kg
Implied efficiency by grain bill
- 15 kg malt: 15 × 0.80 = 12.0 kg potential → ≈ 68% efficiency
- 16 kg malt: 12.8 kg potential → ≈ 64% efficiency
- 17 kg malt: 13.6 kg potential → ≈ 60% efficiency
Realistic brewhouse efficiency: 65–75% depending on process. For planning, assume ~70%.
Within this operating range, the K80 2V runs in its hydraulic and thermal sweet spot.
