Ripe passionfruit, sticky mango and sweet peach. NZ Rhapzody™ is a new thiol-rich New Zealand hop, and this oil puts its juicy fruit into your beer without a trace of bitterness.

Zero bitterness · Hazy IPA trial 20–50 ml/hL · IPA 15–20 ml/hL · Dry hop, whirlpool & keg · New Zealand · 20 ml

What it does in your beer

Passionfruit and intense tropical fruit, pineapple, stone fruit and pink grapefruit. The variety — formerly known by its trial code CIP 014 — is described as very high in thiol precursors, which the producer links to a classic NZ sauvignon blanc character. The oil adds no bitterness: alpha, beta and iso-alpha acids are each below 0.1 %.

IPAs and hazy IPAs are the headline use, with pale ales, pilsners, Pacific ales and even black IPAs on the producer's list. The oil is extracted from wet hops within 24 hours of harvest, so fresh aromatics make it into the bottle.

How much for a 20 L batch

Lager & lighter styles (3–5 ml/hL) 0.6–1.0 ml
Pale ale (10–15 ml/hL) 2–3 ml
IPA (15–20 ml/hL) 3–4 ml
Hazy IPA — producer's starting trial (20–50 ml/hL) 4–10 ml
Hop water (3–15 ml/hL of water) 0.6–3 ml

Approx., from the producer's ml/hL doses scaled to 20 L. One bottle covers even the top of the hazy range. A syringe keeps the measurement honest.

How to use

  • Shake well before opening.
  • Pre-mix the dose in a little beer, or warm (not hot) water, then add it to the fermenter or keg.
  • Dry hopping during active fermentation? The producer recommends it there to boost biotransformation — start by replacing 25–50 % of your pellets.
  • Whirlpool is fine below 85 °C; the kettle is not.
  • Dose before carbonating to protect head retention.

Pairs well with

Blending hops? The producer says NZ Rhapzody™ performs particularly well with Mosaic®, Citra® and Nelson Sauvin, among others — all three are in our range as T90 pellets.

Brewing a hazy IPA? Add Lallemand New England yeast to the plan.

Storage & shelf life

  • 2 years sealed. Keep it cool and out of direct sunlight; the fridge is best.
  • After opening: CO₂ into the headspace, cap on, back in the fridge, and use it within 2–3 months.
  • No freezing.

Good to know

  • Our partner lists it as 'NZ Rhapsody' — same hop; the producer spells it Rhapzody. 20 ml bottle.
  • No bitterness from the oil, so keep your bittering charge.
  • Concentrate warning: the neat oil is flammable, can irritate skin and eyes and may cause a skin allergy (producer's safety data sheet). Keep it away from children and flames and use it only diluted.
  • NZ Rhapzody™ and Amplifire™ are trademarks of Clayton Hops Limited.
  • Ingredients are sent from our partner warehouse in the Czech Republic, so expect them in a parcel of their own.

FAQ

Is NZ Rhapzody the same as NZ Rhapsody or CIP 014?
Yes. CIP 014 was the trial code; the released name is NZ Rhapzody™. Our partner spells it Rhapsody.

How much for a 20 L hazy IPA?
The producer suggests starting trials at 20–50 ml/hL — about 4–10 ml for 20 L. For a standard IPA, 3–4 ml.

When should I add it?
Whirlpool below 85 °C, during active fermentation for biotransformation, or in the bright tank or keg before carbonation. Not in the boil.
