The Red Reaper Counterflow Chiller is a high-performance single-pass wort chiller built for fast knock-down and reliable, clog-resistant cooling. It combines an inner copper wort tube with a tough, flexible PEX outer water jacket to deliver excellent heat transfer while staying easy to handle and connect.

🧊 How a Counterflow Chiller Works
Hot wort flows through the inner copper tube while cold mains water flows through the outer jacket in the opposite direction. This counter-current design lets you chill from near-boiling to pitching temps in one pass, similar efficiency to a plate chiller but with much better hop tolerance.
🧪 What is PEX?
PEX (cross-linked polyethylene) is a flexible, high-temperature, high-pressure plumbing material widely used as a modern alternative to copper. It handles hot/cold cycles well, resists bursting, and makes the chiller lighter and easier to route compared to all-copper designs.

🧼 Cleaning & Sanitising
- Sanitise before chilling: recirculate boiling wort through the chiller for the last 15 minutes of the boil.
- Clean after use: flush immediately, then circulate a suitable alkaline brewery wash (ideally around 80 °C) for at least 5 minutes.
- Reverse flow while cleaning: swap direction a few times to strip stubborn deposits.
- Rinse hot: rinse with clean water at a similar temperature.
⚠️ Care Notes
- Do not store in direct sunlight – UV can degrade PEX over time.
- Avoid long storage with acidic sanitisers – acids can attack copper if left soaking.
- Dry fully before storage for best lifespan.
