Mango and lemon, grown in the Czech Republic. Saturn is one of the new Czech flavour hops: fruit first, with a softer citrus note behind it.

Alpha 6–8.5 % · Boil, whirlpool & dry hop · Fruity, lemon, mango · T90 pellets · Crop 2024

What it does in your beer

Saturn belongs to the new generation of Czech flavour hops bred in Žatec. Expect an intense fruity aroma of lemon and mango, with a milder citrus note underneath. Its breeders received the Czech Minister of Agriculture's award for the best applied research and development result for it.

It works across the whole boil, in the whirlpool and in the dry hop. Use it in top-fermented beers, or dry hop a lager with it for an India pale lager with a Czech accent.

How to use

  • Boil: any addition works, but the fruit is the reason to buy it — put most of it late.
  • Whirlpool: a recommended use. Above about 60 °C some bitterness still extracts, so a large charge nudges the IBU up.
  • Dry hop: in ales, or in a bottom-fermented lager for an IPL.
  • Crop 2024: base your IBU on the alpha printed on the pack.

Pairs well with

Brewing an India pale lager? Czech Pilsner Malt and SafLager W-34/70, with Saturn in the whirlpool and the dry hop. Prefer an ale? Swap the yeast for SafAle US-05.
