Clean, crisp and neutral — US-05 lets your hops and malt do the talking. Low esters, 78–82 % apparent attenuation and a firm foam head in the fermenter.

Attenuation 78–82 % · 18–26 °C · Medium sedimentation · Low esters · 50–80 g/hl · 11.5 g sachet

What it does in your beer

US-05 ferments to 78–82 % apparent attenuation with low esters and medium higher alcohols. The result is a neutral, well-balanced ale that finishes clean and crisp. Less yeast character, more of your recipe.

It builds a firm foam head in the fermenter and stays in suspension well while it works. That's why it's the default for American pale ales, IPAs and other heavily hopped beers, and it's just as comfortable under a stout, porter or brown ale.

How much for a 20 L batch

Fermentis recommends 50–80 g/hl. For 20 L (0.2 hl) that's 10–16 g, i.e. 1–2 sachets (approx.: dosage × 0.2 hl, rounded up to whole 11.5 g sachets).

For a normal-strength wort one sachet does the job. Brewing something stronger, around 14 °P and above? Pitch two sachets or make a starter.

How to use

  • Direct pitch: sprinkle the yeast evenly over the whole wort surface, at or above fermentation temperature, so it doesn't clump.
  • Or rehydrate: sprinkle into at least 10× its weight of sterile water or boiled, hopped wort at 25–29 °C (115 ml or more for one sachet), rest 15–30 minutes, stir gently and pitch the cream.
  • Ferment at 18–26 °C.
  • Opened a sachet and not used it all? Seal it, keep it at 4 °C and use it within 7 days.

FAQ

Do I need to rehydrate US-05?
No. Fermentis allows direct pitching onto the wort. Rehydration in 25–29 °C water or wort for 15–30 minutes is an option, not a must.

How many sachets for 20 L?
1–2. 50–80 g/hl works out at 10–16 g for 20 L: one sachet for a normal-strength wort, two (or a starter) from around 14 °P.

What temperature should I ferment at?
Ideally 18–26 °C.

How long does it keep?
36 months from production when stored unopened, cool and dry. Once opened, seal it, keep it at 4 °C and use it within 7 days.
