Passionfruit, pink grapefruit and pineapple, measured out by the millilitre. Riwaka's big tropical character, bottled as a water-soluble oil with zero bitterness.
Zero bitterness · Dry hop, whirlpool & keg · IPA 15–20 ml/hL · 20 ml ≈ 1 kg T90 pellets · New Zealand · 20 ml
What it does in your beer
Passionfruit and pink grapefruit up front, with pineapple, lime, orange and a blackberry-candy edge behind. The oil is extracted from fresh, undried cones within 24 hours of harvest, so it keeps the volatile aromatics that kilning drives off. It adds aroma and flavour only — alpha, beta and iso-alpha acids are each below 0.1 %.
There's no plant matter, so nothing soaks up your beer and there's no hop sludge to rack off. Use it on its own or alongside pellets in hazy, NZ and West Coast IPAs, pale ales, lagers and pilsners.

How much for a 20 L batch
| Lager & lighter styles (3–5 ml/hL) | 0.6–1.0 ml |
| Pale ale (10–15 ml/hL) | 2–3 ml |
| IPA (15–20 ml/hL) | 3–4 ml |
| Hazy IPA — producer's starting trial (20–50 ml/hL) | 4–10 ml |
| Hop water (3–15 ml/hL of water) | 0.6–3 ml |
Approx., scaled from the producer's ml/hL guide to 20 L. Even the top of the hazy range fits in one bottle. Use a small syringe — at these volumes you're counting drops, not glugs.
How to use
- Shake the bottle well first.
- Pre-mix the dose into some of the beer (the producer suggests 2–3 L at brewery scale) or into warm, not hot, water, then add it to the fermenter or keg.
- Dry hop: run it alongside pellets or instead of them. A good first step is swapping 25–50 % of your pellet charge for oil.
- Whirlpool: chill the wort below 85 °C before it goes in. Keep it out of the boil.
- Kegging: dose before you carbonate — adding it to carbonated beer can hurt head retention.
- Unsure how hard to push it? Stir 1–2 drops into 150 ml of your beer, wait a couple of minutes and taste. That's the producer's own bench trial.
Swap it for
Prefer pellets? Riwaka T90 pellets are in our range. The producer's rule of thumb: 20 ml of oil does the aroma work of about 1 kg of T90 pellets.
Pairs well with
Brewing a hazy IPA? Try it with WHC Lab Haze Heaven yeast, BESTMALZ BEST Pale Ale as the base and oat flakes in the grist (up to 20 %).
Storage & shelf life
- Sealed, it keeps for 2 years. Room temperature out of direct sun is allowed, but a cool, stable spot is better — the fridge is ideal.
- Opened: flush the headspace with CO₂ if you can, cap it tight, keep it in the fridge and use it within 2–3 months.
- Never freeze it.

Good to know
- One 20 ml bottle. Zero bitterness, so your IBUs still come from the boil.
- It's a concentrate. Neat, the oil is flammable and can irritate skin and eyes or cause a skin allergy (producer's safety data sheet). Keep it away from children and naked flames, and never swallow it undiluted.

- Brewing ingredients leave our partner warehouse in the Czech Republic in their own parcel, separate from any equipment you order.
FAQ
How much Riwaka oil for a 20 L IPA?
About 3–4 ml, based on the producer's 15–20 ml/hL for IPAs. For a hazy IPA the producer suggests starting trials at 20–50 ml/hL — roughly 4–10 ml.
Can it replace my Riwaka pellets completely?
It can, but the producer suggests starting by replacing 25–50 % of the pellet dry hop. As a guide, 20 ml of oil ≈ 1 kg of T90 pellets.
Will it cause hop creep?
It shouldn't. The oil contains no monosaccharides or enzymes — the things that drive hop creep.
Can I make hop water with it?
Yes. Use 3–15 ml per hectolitre of water (about 0.6–3 ml for 20 L), pre-mixed in warm water. The producer's hop water recipe blends Riwaka with Motueka and Nelson Sauvin oils.
